My Media Bloglist...

Something I should have done more of when I was a student - particularly in my first two years of study - was absorb blogs. Despite being told to write my own and read others, I never really had the confidence, knowledge or initiative to do so.

I think it reflects my naivety at the time and displays how much the media landscape has changed in the last few years that the current crop of journalism students are beginning to use social media and blogging much more in their day to day lives.

Simon, Jake and Lois are good friends of mine and in their second year studying journalism at University College Falmouth. Bored of posting stuff on their wall on facebook, I thought I'd put together a list of media blogs and websites that might be useful to them (or other media students) so that when they finish uni they don't end up acting like an unemployed student.

Mashable: The Social Media Guide Self-Explanatory and frequently updated.
Media Monkey Short media diary from the Guardian covering all sections of the media.
Sturgeons Law Will Sturgeon's blog covers PR and and the wider media spectrum.
The Media Blog was started by Will Sturgeon, where he is one of the contributors.
Dave Lee's is a bit of a poster boy for where blogging as a journalism student can get you. Dave was the year above me at uni, although at a different uni. He now works as a journalist as the BBC which goes some way to the recent infrequency of his posts.
Enemies of Reason is the blog of Bristol based writer, Anton Vowl. Covering newspapers, he takes an often scathing and sometimes hilarious look at the tabloid and broadsheet press.
Behind the Spin Public relations for students and young practitioners.

This list is straight off the top of my head, and by no means definitive, so if you feel you've been forgotten and would like to be included, feel free to email me at sam underscore lynas at hotmail dot com .
